The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) launched their first calendar project in 2006. The framework was expanded in 2008 as an Art and Essay Event challenging fourth grade students in the Indianapolis Metro Area to discuss, explore solutions, and write an essay answering one of the following questions.
“How could current discoveries in science impact our transportation in a positive way?”
“Thinking about they way people and products were moved in the past, how might we move them in the future to better use our natural resources?”
“What might your neighborhood or community look like if we placed the environment and healthy living as a priority?”
Excerpts from the winning essays and student drawings were used to create the 2009 MPO/CILC Calendar.Engaging students in relevant community and global issues is our primary focus at all levels within the K-12 environment.
